Regarding lightning protection measures for transformers

Today, I will explain to you the safety measures for lightning protection of transformer brands. Because summer is a season with frequent storms, if a transformer is struck by lightning, it will seriously endanger the reliability of the power supply system and cause great harm to the operation of the power grid. Therefore, lightning protection measures must be taken throughout the entire operation of the transformer.

1. It is strictly prohibited to release edible salt into the soil layer of the grounding device to reduce soil resistance. Due to the severe corrosion of the grounding body caused by edible salt, the resistance of the transformer grounding wire is likely to reach the specified value or even lower after adding edible salt. Over time, the resistance of the grounding wire far exceeds the standard value, and it is likely to be damaged due to counterattacks when struck by lightning.

2. Check the resistance of the grounding wire. Before the storm season, the resistance of the transformer grounding wire should be tested. Once non-compliance is found, effective measures should be taken immediately. In addition, lightning protection equipment should be inspected, especially the inspection of down conductors at the intersection of soil layers and all interfaces, to meet the requirements.

3. Properly install high-voltage lightning arresters. There is a high possibility of overvoltage caused by positive and negative wave transformation on the transformer of the distribution equipment, in order to avoid damage to the dry test transformer due to lightning strikes on the 10kV line. For distribution equipment transformers with Y/Y0 or Y/Y connections, a set of valve type lightning arresters should be installed on their high and low voltage sides. Practical experience has shown that the closer the high-voltage lightning arrester is to the distribution equipment transformer, the better the lightning protection effect.

4. Check the high-voltage lightning arrester on time. To ensure the full utilization of high-voltage lightning arresters, they should be tested once a year, and the resistance value of the grounding wire should not exceed 4 euros.
